Railway Flowers

Photo work, 2020
Fine art print on forex, 50 x 50 cm

In Berlin there are many abandoned railway tracks, especially in industrial areas. One of these tracks is located next to the Philip Morris factory in Neukölln. I followed the railroad with my camera and present some moments in this photo work. I have called these objects “railway flowers”, because you almost get the impression that things have grown spontaneously out of the railway. But if you stand still for a moment and you see what kind of objects they are, you realize that these are all products of “human nature”… and hopefully then you get the idea to take a more critical look at our behavior.

Emergency Call

While the summer in Berlin in 2018 was the hottest and driest in the whole history, the month of July 2017 had brought us only heavy rain. The Landwehrkanal emerged from the banks, basements overflowed. Extreme climatological events, which take place all over the world, should be a warning sign to large industry and governments. My hope is that humanity will respond to Earth’s emergency call and not let the phone rust in the water.

In 2020 I have begun to expand the work into an installation with multiple videos and sound: Emergency Call Center.
The installation was shown for the first time May 27 – June 19, 2022 in the exhibition KLIMAKIPPPUNKTE, Galerie VBK Berlin.
