POSUN V ČASE * TIME-SHIFT

a multimedial art exhibition in PRAGUE + BERLIN

Under the title Zeitverschiebung (Time-Shift), the first part of a multimedial art exchange exhibition between Prague and Berlin will take place. At the initiative of the Prague artists for a dialogue with their western neighbours and especially with their fellow artists from Berlin, we can now announce the first exhibitions that will be held in the Gallery of the Prague Academy of Architecture and the Gallery of the Artists Association NSPU. The exhibitions, curated by both partners, include photography, drawing, painting, video and an interactive installation on the topic and the specific cultural context. The concept of a direct dialogue, i.e. the dialogic confrontation of the artworks, promises to be an exciting exhibition. Not in the least because Prague and Berlin are linked by a long cultural history, which is increasingly reflected today as a mutual interest between the younger artists.

Participating artists: Sandra Becker, Catherine Bourdon, Karel Dvořák, Marianne Gielen, Simone Kornfeld, Maria Korporal, Ivan Králík, Milan Křenek, Sebastian Kusenberg, Ina Lindemann, Alena Petříčkova, Zdenka Reinerová, Sabine Schneider, Petr Tošovský, Marian Zajíček, Václava Zouplnová.

Exhibition venues:
Gallery NSPU – from May 3 to May 31, 2018
Vernissage: May 2, 2018 – 6 pm

TOTALITÄR

This year’s association exhibition in the Verein Berliner Künstler: UPDATE 18 | TOTALITÄR
21.04. – 20.05. 2018

Opening
Friday, 20.04.2018, 19h

The exhibition focuses on conceptual works on this very complex and up-to-date topic.
Internationally, democratic conditions are experiencing a shock. Not only in Europe, but on almost every continent, our democratic values are in danger.
In addition, we live in a digital transformation that fundamentally changes our way of life through automation processes and digital communication. These changes are felt to be similarly groundbreaking as the epoch of the invention of printing, the Gutenberg Age.
The exhibition TOTALITÄR critically deals with these changes. These include topics such as surveillance opportunities, social networks, digital warfare, binary stereotypes, the spread of violent fantasies, hate speech, exclusion and anonymity. Various intermediate and border areas are aesthetically reflected in the 59 positions of the international artists of the association who live or work in Berlin in a radical and very different way.

Breaking Borders

The work is thought-provoking on the United Nations and the dictatorships among the Member States.
The basis of the United Nations is the Declaration of Human Rights. It was approved and proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948.

The object “Totalitarian United” is a cylindrical structure containing 32 small panels that look like video screens – but they are digital prints. On the outside, the entire world map is shown, on the inside the text of the Declaration of Human Rights is printed in mirror-script; you have to look through the openings between the plates to read the text, mirrored on the big steel ball inside the cylinder. A direct confrontation is never possible and the green, matrix-like letters give the whole a fleeting, easy hackable impression.

The object has been shown in the exhibition TOTALITÄR | UPDATE18 in Verein Berliner Künstler from 20th April to 20th May 2018.

New exhibition: Empört Euch! 4th – 12th of July 2019 in the Bunker K101, Cologne

technique: laser print on paper and cardboard, steel ball, metal wire
size: cylindrical installation, composed of 32 panels and a steel ball of diameter 20 cm, complex measure: diameter 30 cm, height 30 cm

Die Grenzen der Sprache

Die Grenzen der Sprache (The Limits of Language)
an interactive installation by Maria Korporal
in the exhibition “Update 17”, 21.04 – 28.05.2017 in Galerie VBK, Schöneberger Ufer 57, 10785 Berlin – Mitte.
Website: www.vbk-art.de

The work presents the statement “Die Grenzen der Sprache sind die Grenzen der Welt” by Ludwig Wittgenstein. The German word “Grenzen” has a double meaning and the phrase can be translated in two ways: “The Limits of Language are the Limits of the World” or “The Borders of Language are the Borders of the World”.
The incomprehension between different cultures – the most important cause of the problems in the world – can only be combated if people are willing to understand each other’s language and communicate with each other, even if that is not easy.

The installation consists of a mini-projector and a computer with mouse and round keyboard. The projection is a round video of an endlessly turning wall that has totally enclosed the world. When you click on the image, a box will appear where you can enter text. The visitors of the exhibition are invited to write a word or a very short text. This is less simple than it seems: the round keyboard does not have all the letters of the alphabet, so you have to be inventive.
When you send the text, the wall breaks and you can see the open sky with floating texts.
After a few minutes, the video with the wall starts again, and visitors can play anew. If nobody plays, the wall simply turns around with the text of Wittgenstein.
The words that “fly” around the sky are all the words that the visitors have entered, they are all stored in a database. So, the more the exhibition progresses, the more words will float in the sky.
